Police: Woman, 91, Lost $1,000 In Pigeon Drop Scam In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday were asking for assistance in finding two suspects who conned a woman out of $1,000 in a pigeon drop scam in the Bronx.
Around noon Wednesday, Dec. 3, the 91-year-old woman was walking near 235th Street and the Henry Hudson Parkway, in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
One of the suspects walked up to the woman and claimed she had just come across a bag with a substantial amount of money inside, police said. The other claimed to have observed the discovery, and persuaded the victim that they could each keep a cut of the found money if she gave them cash immediately, police said.
The victim agreed and took out $1,000 from a nearby bank, police said. She handed over the money to the second suspect, and was told she would be contacted the next day to find out where she could pick up her money, police said.
The suspects fled with the victim's money, police said.
Police have released a surveillance image of the first suspect, a woman.
