Officials: New York State Troopers To Step Up Patrols

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Santa won't be the only one making sure you're doing the right thing this holiday season.

New York officials said state troopers will be out in full force through the new year.

Officials said motorists can expect to see sobriety checkpoints along with more troopers on major highways, including unmarked patrol vehicles.

Troopers will be on the look out not just for impaired drivers, but also distracted drivers, speeders and people not using seat belts.

Last year, state police issued more than 38,000 tickets in the weeks leading up to New Year's Day. More than 630 people were charged with driving while intoxicated.
