Report: '99.9 Percent' Chance Giants Bring Back Tom Coughlin

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Maybe Tom Coughlin's seat isn't so hot, after all.

According to the New York Post, the Giants are leaning towards bringing back the head coach for the 2015 season.

"99.9 percent he's back," a source told the newspaper on Sunday night after the Giants defeated the Redskins for their second straight win.

Giants brass is well-known for being conservative when it comes to making public statements regarding contracts and job security during the season.

As expected, when asked on Sunday night if Coughlin will be Big Blue's coach next season, New York's owners didn't divulge anything.

"I have no comment," co-owner John Mara said.

Co-owner Steve Tisch, predictably, offered no comment as well.

Back in November, the New York Post reported there was a '50-50' chance that the Giants would retain the 68-year-old.

General manager Jerry Reese went on a spending spree this past offseason, but it hasn't worked out. The team has been decimated by injuries, and the offense has been learning on the fly under first-year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

The Giants are 5-9 and will miss the playoffs for the third consecutive campaign. It will be the first time that Coughlin will have back-to-back losing seasons since being hired by the organization in 2004.

Coughlin, of course, led the Giants to victories in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.

All indications are that Coughlin still wants to coach, and that he has the support of his players in the locker room.
