Rapper Bobby Shmurda Arrested In Narcotics, Shootings Probe
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York rapper Bobby Shmurda was arrested at a Midtown recording studio Wednesday, following a long-term NYPD investigation related to narcotics and shootings.
Shmurda, 20, whose given name is Ackquille Pollard, was arrested at the Quad Recording Studios, at 723 Seventh Ave., the New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Office told CBS2.
Prosecutors did not specify information about the allegations, but they did say the investigation and arrest were related to a long-term probe involving narcotics and several shootings throughout the city.
An indictment was set to be unsealed on Thursday, prosecutors said.
Shmurda was arrested along with several others, sources said.
Shmurda, who grew up in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, received widespread attention earlier this year for his song "Hot N***a," and its accompanying video that featured him performing the "Shmoney dance" choreography he had created last year.
The Quad Recording studios where the arrests occurred also gained notoriety back in 1994, when Tupac Shakur was shot five times during a robbery in the lobby. Shakur survived the incident, but was killed in 1996 following a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
