Brooklyn Mom Who Allegedly Left Kids Home Alone While Getting A Tattoo Appears In Court

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn middle school teacher accused of leaving her kids home alone to party and get a tattoo faced a judge Thursday.

Laura Aguero refused to say anything to CBS2's Ilana Gold outside the Brooklyn courthouse, where she and her husband, Alfredo Bobe, 41, waited for their arraignment. Aguero, 35, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and her husband is charged with criminal mischief.

The only explanation the couple would give is "we're an eco-friendly Latino family," Bobe said.

Aguero, a teacher at Middle School 88 in Park Slope, left her three children, ages 4 to 12, at her Sunset Park home alone for hours while she allegedly got a tattoo and then went drinking with her husband, police said. They didn't return home until 3 a.m., according to investigators.

When the couple finally showed up, police were at the front door waiting for them.

A neighbor called 911 after hearing a commotion inside the home, investigators said. That's when authorities figured out the kids had no supervision, police said.

Now Aguero's job could be in jeopardy.

A Department of Education spokeswoman said: "While this alleged behavior is not school-related, it is unacceptable. She has been reassigned away from any classroom, and will not be in contact with students."
