Two uniformed officers on the violence reduction foot post reported hearing several gunshots near 140th Street and Cypress Avenue at around 10:50 p.m.

Two other officers responded to the area and canvassed for a possible suspect, police said. A motorist at 138th Street told the officers that the person responsible for the gunfire was a male wearing a black jacket across the street.

Police said when the officers began to approach the suspect, he ran toward 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard, at which time responding PSA 7 officers engaged him and told him to drop his weapon.

That’s when the man turned toward an officer while pointing his gun, a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver, who had taken cover behind a parked vehicle, police said.

The suspect then dropped his weapon and was taken into custody.
