Hundreds Of NYC Cab Drivers Fined For Cursing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Hundreds of cabbies have been getting into trouble for cursing in front of passengers.

As 1010 WINS' Kevin Rincon reported, the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission has received more than 750 complaints in 2014. The fines range from $200 to $1,000.

Many cabbies said they aren't to blame. It's the customers' fault, they insist.

"I'm not surprised because we have some terrible passengers," one driver said.

Another cabbie told Rincon he was fined $200 for cursing after a passenger lost her cool.

He said he stopped at a construction work zone, but a bus passed through. The customer got angry that he stopped. After some yelling, she reported him.

"It's not actually my fault," the driver said. "It's not fair."

Other cabbies said they try to ignore when customers get agitated.

"Passengers are only going to be in the car for, what, the most six, seven minutes," one driver said. "That's it. So I'm not going to get myself upset."
