NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have released the identity of a New Jersey man hit and killed by a car on the Upper East Side, and they say the driver who hit him was ticketed.

Wesley Mensing, 27, of Scotch Plains, was killed in the crash around 7:20 p.m., police said.

Mensing and a 30-year-old woman were crossing a street Saturday evening when a Mercedes-Benz SUV hit them both, police said. The woman is hospitalized in stable condition. Mensing was dead on arrival.

The 45-year-old SUV driver got an unlicensed-driving ticket. Police have not released the driver's name.

The investigation is continuing.

Mensing was a golf instructor and featured in Golf Digest's article on the best young golf teachers in America in November.
