Seton Hall Enters AP Top 25 Men's Basketball Poll, St. John's Falls To No. 24

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Seton Hall is in, and St. John's is hanging by a thread.

Seton Hall, VCU, Arkansas and Old Dominion are new arrivals to the AP Top 25 men's basketball poll, with the No. 19 Pirates (12-2, 2-0) the highest of that group after upsetting then-unbeaten Villanova over the weekend.

Earlier in the week, Seton Hall upset then-No. 15 St. John's 78-67. The Red Storm (11-3, 0-2) followed that loss with another defeat at the hands of Butler on Saturday.

St. John's has fallen to No. 24 in the poll.

For the fifth straight week, Kentucky is the unanimous No. 1 team.

The Wildcats (13-0) got all 64 first-place votes cast Monday after having the week off, and have been atop the rankings all season. Kentucky hasn't played since beating Louisville on Dec. 27 and returns Tuesday against Mississippi.

The top five remained unchanged, with Duke, Virginia, Wisconsin and Louisville behind Kentucky.

For the No. 25 Monarchs (12-1), it marked their first appearance in program history.

Washington, Colorado State, Northern Iowa and Georgetown dropped out of the poll.

St. John's will take on No. 8 Villanova at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, and Seton Hall will meet Xavier in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
