Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy Sworn In For Second Term
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy has taken the oath of office for his second term as Connecticut's governor.
Malloy was sworn in Wednesday at the state armory in Hartford by his longtime friend, Supreme Court Justice Andrew McDonald. Malloy was surrounded by his wife Cathy and their three sons.
During his inaugural address, Malloy urged people of all political parties to let their shared beliefs in everything from better roads to better public education help guide Connecticut's future.
Malloy acknowledged the adversity the state experienced over the past four years, ranging from budget deficits to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, but said progress was nevertheless made in Connecticut.
"Together, let us continue to buck the national trends of obstruction and gridlock. Let us confront hard realities, tackle old problems with renewed vigor, and set aside short-term convenience in favor of long-term prosperity,'' Malloy said. "Let us dismiss petty partisanship that divides us, and focus instead on what binds us to one another.''
Earlier in the day, Malloy swore in Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman. Afterward, both braved frigid temperatures, along with the other constitutional officers, in the traditional inaugural parade.
At 4 p.m., Malloy will deliver the State of the State address to a joint session of the legislature.
An inaugural ball will later be held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Malloy heads into his second term after a hard-fought campaign and a narrow win.

His biggest challenge will be closing a projected $1 billion budget gap, WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported.
Political analyst Gary Rose said that alone could consume a major part of Malloy's term.
Rose said though Connecticut has no limits on how many terms a governor may serve, he is certain this will be Malloy's last.
"I've always said that he has higher aspirations than being Connecticut governor, possibly a cabinet post or even higher than that," Rose said, adding that it's likely the governor will base a number of his decisions with his future considerations in mind.
Besides Malloy, four other constitutional officers were sworn into office by Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.
