Search On For Driver Who Struck, Critically Injured Man In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday were asking the public to help them find the driver who struck and critically injured a man in a busy Bronx intersection.

The 46-year-old man was trying to cross White Plains Road near Westchester Avenue – and close to the Parkchester No. 6 Train station – at 6:13 p.m. Thursday, police said.

He was crossing outside the marked crosswalk, and stopped at the double yellow lines in the middle of the street where he was struck by a white van with U-Haul decals on its sides, police said.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with head injuries, police said. Authorities told CBS2 on Thursday that the man was left in critical condition.

The vehicle sustained damage to its driver's side mirror when it hit the man, and its driver kept going, police said.

Police Friday night released surveillance video of the incident.

Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.
