NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Cash was raining down on the Long Island Expressway in Queens early Tuesday morning.

Around 2:45 a.m., the back door of an armored vehicle traveling east on the LIE near Yellowstone Boulevard in Forest Hills popped open, and a bag full of money fell out, WCBS 880’s Irene Cornell reported.

The bag contained $178,000. When it was all over, only $40 was recovered.

The incident is being investigated as either an inside job that went awry or a most unusual accident, Cornell reported.
