'New Kids On The Block' Announce Summer Throwback Concerts At The Garden

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- If you remember the late 1980s then you definitely know the hits of the New Kids On The Block.

On Tuesday, the New Kids revealed a plan that could let you flashback to your childhood. As CBS2's Meg Baker reported, fans will get a second chance to rock out with New Kids On The Block.

The boyband announced a summer concert series that will come to Madison Square Garden.

"I remember the last time we played here and I was like, 'God, that was so good. I hope we get to do it again,' and we do!" Joey McIntyre said.

The throwback concert, dubbed "The Main Event," will include special guests TLC and Nelly.

TLC said to expect music to be upbeat.

"For dancing, they won't out-dance us," the group said.

Donnie Wahlberg now stars in the hit CBS show Blue Bloods. He'll have to juggle acting and touring.

"Filming in New York is the greatest thing ever. Running down the street chasing bad guys," he said, "This is what we were born to do. As much as I love acting, music was what I was born to do."

Formed in 1984, New Kids On The Block sold more than 80 million albums worldwide.

"A lot of bands don't stick together because it's not easy. We took years off, that helped, but we are back together now," McIntyre said.

McIntyre also acts; on Thursday nights you can catch him on CBS' "The McCarthy's."

Grown up fans say the concert has reunited them with childhood friends.

"Not only old, but new. I know these girls and many more because of New Kids On The Block," Kim Opalenik said.

"I was like 9 years old so I wasn't able to go to concerts or anything, so I was just so happy and grateful they came back," Maria Palacios said.

Topping Madonna and Michael Jackson, the group was the highest paid entertainers in 1990. That was in part because of merchandise sales including t-shirts, lunch boxes and dolls.

Wahlberg no longer has his 90s doll, but his wife Jenny McCarthy does.

"The Donnie doll is going to keep her company while I'm gone," Donnie said.

In 1988, tickets sold out in minutes. The same is expected in 2015.

Tickets go on sale Friday, the New Kids On The Block will perform at the Garden on June 21 and 22.
