Benefit Concert To Be Held For Farmingdale Teacher Battling Cancer

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A special concert will be held Friday evening to help raise money for a beloved Long Island music teacher.

Michelle Lindsley, choral director of Farmingdale High School, is battling bone marrow cancer.

One of her former students, Robbie Rosen of "American Idol" fame, organized the benefit concert, "Music for Michelle," to cover some of Lindsley's medical expenses.

"Music is my entire life and she's really been my rock through it all -- before 'American Idol,' during and after," Rosen told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera.

Lindsley, who is currently receiving treatment at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences cancer  center, said she is so grateful.

"I want to be there so badly," Lindsley said. "I was hoping to be there and I thought I was going to be there, but then I had a bad test result with my doctors here and they said nope."

The concert is being held at Farmingdale High School. Rosen, MarissaAnn of "The Voice" and other local celebrities will be performing at the event.

"I'm really excited to meet (Robbie) and I am really happy he is doing this for Michelle," MarissaAnn said.

Tickets are $6 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased at the door.

The show starts at 7 p.m.

"I'm so appreciative," Lindsley said. "I get very overwhelmed by it all."

Rosen said all ticket sales will go to Lindsley. Those who can't attend the concert but wish to donate, click here.
