Snow Falls In Time For Annual Winter Jam In Central Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The winter storm that swept over New York City couldn't have been timed any better for the Parks Department's annual Winter Jam festival in Central Park.

New York City residents turned out for ski lessons, snowboarding and sled riding Saturday afternoon during the free event.

As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, there was just enough snowfall in Central Park to help make Winter Jam a success.

Richard and his wife were out in Central Park with their two daughters.

"We're originally from Connecticut, so I enjoy anytime we get a little white stuff on the ground. That way we can take the family out and enjoy a little slaying," he said.

Ian said the decision to head to the park was a no-brainer.

"While you're here playing in the snow, snowball fights, sledding, bunch of fun stuff," he said.

Kids and adults of all ages were tossing snowballs, making snowmen and even tobogganing down hills.

The annual Winter Jam event was held at the Central Park bandshell between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.
