Teen Accused Of Using Fake NYPD ID At Long Island Bar

Editor's Note: Charges against Matthew Ettlinger were dismissed in April, 2015. The original article below was published on Jan. 24, 2015.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenager from Pennsylvania has been charged with impersonating a police officer after he allegedly tried to bluff his way into a Long Island bar Friday night.

Matthew Ettlinger is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and one count of false personation, 1010 WINS reported.

Nassau County Police said the 16-year-old claimed to be a police officer while talking to a Rockville Centre bar manager and showed a fake New York Police Department identification card, complete with a shield number.

The bar manager, doubting the NYPD ID card was real, called police after the teen left. Police found Ettlinger nearby on Park Avenue, and claim he also told them he was an officer.

Ettlinger, of Schnecksville, Penn., was also carrying fake New York and Colorado driver's licenses and two forged credit cards, according to authorities.
