NJ Mother Pleads For Information After Son, Timothy Hamlett, Goes Missing

TEANECK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) –  A Teaneck, New Jersey, mother whose son has been missing since Dec. 26, 2014, is asking for help in locating her son.

Katherine Hamlett said her 20-year-old son, Timothy Hamlett, left their Teaneck home the day after Christmas. When the family realized he hadn't returned, they pinged his cell phone to New York City's Washington Heights area.

Hamlett told 1010 WINS she alerted Port Authority police and began a frantic search for him.

Local reports say police tracked his phone to a Washington Heights home where a group of children said they found his phone and wallet.

"There have been some leads, and we've followed up, but he's still missing," his mother told 1010 WINS. "February 1 is his 21st birthday so we're just making a plea to anyone who has seen him or know his whereabouts to please, please, please contact local authorities, contact us."

Timothy's mother said he has never done anything like this before

"So it makes it difficult to say with any certainty why it is that he would leave and not want to be in contact with us. That is the part that is incredibly scary and frightening because it is so inconsistent with anything he's ever done," Katherine Hamlett said.

If you have any information regarding Timothy Hamlett's whereabouts, please call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. You can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or texting tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
