2/1: CBS2 Sunday Evening Weather Headlines

By Mark McIntyre, Jr.
CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good evening everybody! We're seeing some light snow spreading into the area right now but the main story will be overnight into the morning commute. Here's the deal: Plenty of heavy/wet snow far north/west in Sullivan/Ulster/Dutchess & perhaps Sussex in NJ...Up to a foot possible. Closer to the city, much less snow, between 2-4" in NYC, but with a serious threat of ice accumulations. And folks on the South Shore of Eastern LI/Jersey Shore? Well you're looking at mostly rain (not to say some brief snow at the start isn't possible).

Storm Timeline

The timing is pretty terrible too, right in the thick of the morning commute. Things taper off during the day tomorrow and there could be some additional snow showers for the evening commute...And with Arctic air rushing in behind this storm, everything on the ground will refreeze once again.

Ice Amounts

Temps bottom out Monday night at about 10 degrees in NYC, much colder than that in the outlying suburbs. Tuesday will be cold and windy with highs only in the teens to mid 20s around town, and we do warm up Wednesday into the upper 30s which is right around normal.
