Blind Skier From Long Island Hits The Slopes For First Time

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A blind Long Island man headed up to Vermont to go skiing for the first time.

With the help of guides, Tom Kershaw took to the slopes at Pico Mountain in Killington as part of Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports' Annual Winter Ski Festival.

He was joined by 20 other visually impaired athletes from across the country.

"It's my first time skiing so it's bit of a tricky thing, but I'm getting it little by little," Kershaw said.

The blind skiers took part in downhill and cross country skiing as well as snowshoeing.
