SPCA: Dog Found Dead Inside Crate Near Bellport Park

BELLPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County SPCA is investigating the death of a dog found in a crate near a Brookhaven Town park.

The young female lab mix was found inside a crate in a wooded area near the Martha Avenue Recreation Park in Bellport on Tuesday.

The dog was emaciated and had only died a short time before it was found, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

A necropsy is being performed to determine a cause of death, Gross said.
