Police: 28 Suffer Minor Injuries After School Bus, Truck Collide In Deer Park

DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Nearly 30 people have been injured in a collision between a school bus and box truck on Long Island, police said.

The accident happened at about 7:50 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Deer Park Avenue and Seaman's Neck Road in Deer Park.

A school bus carrying 24 high school age students to a nearby technical school collided with a box truck, Suffolk County police said.

The injured were taken to area hospitals for observation.

None of the injuries were believed to be serious.

"Everybody is being checked out for minor bumps and bruises and just to make sure everybody is OK," said Suffolk County Police Sgt. Colleen Cooney.

Besides the students, a bus driver and attendant and the driver and passenger in the box truck also were injured.

No summonses were issued.

"Everything is still under investigation," Cooney said. "We're considering all possibilities as to how the accident occurred."
