Toys Of Tomorrow On Display At Javits Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Let playtime begin!

The toys on display at the 112th North American International Toy Fair at the Javits Center in Manhattan are items that you'll see at holiday time.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, creativity is a popular trend at this year's event, including a Lego set that allows you to scan what you build into an app and then animate your project.

"Kids are using and creating their own types of toys," said Ken Cider, of the Toy Industry Association. "Or they're taking existing toys and they're adapting them."

One company at this year's toy fair is Green Toys, which makes its products out of recycled milk cartons.

"We always say that people think about toys the way they think about food, and they want to know what goes in it," a Green Toys representative told Stern.

CBS2 also got a look at some of this year's newest toys before they hit store shelves.

In an in-studio interview with CBS2's Andrea Grymes, Laurie Schacht of The Toy Insider offered a sneak peek at all the action. The event is not open to the public.

"Every year for over a hundred years, toy retailers and manufacturers come to New York when it's really cold in February to decide what toys will actually make it to our kids' toy boxes."

The North American International Toy Fair runs now through Feb. 17. For more information on the Toy Fair, click here.
