Red Bulls Sign Forward Mike Grella, Waive Midfielder Ian Christianson

HARRISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Red Bulls have signed forward Mike Grella and waived midfielder Ian Christianson.

Grella, a Long Island native, made the team after a tryout during the team's first preseason trip to Orlando, Florida. The 28-year-old played at Duke and spent last year with the Carolina RailHawks of the second-tier North American Soccer League. He has played in Europe with Leeds, Carlisle, Swindon, Brentford, Bury, Scunthorpe and Denmark's Viborg.

Christianson was drafted by the Red Bulls in the second round in 2013. His only league action last season was as a substitute in a win over Seattle.

The Major League Soccer team announced the moves on Tuesday.
