SPCA: Puppy Rescued After Being Dumped In Clothing Bin In Centereach

CENTEREACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County SPCA is asking for help in trying to figure out who dumped a puppy into a clothing bin Wednesday in Centereach.

A witness saw a woman throw the puppy, a 3-month-old black lab, into a clothing bin at a shopping center at the intersection of Middle Country Road and South Coleman Road, Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said.

The woman then drove off, Gross said. She was driving a black Ford Expedition with chrome wheels and a partial New York plate of 6744, Gross said.

"A totally heartless person to take an innocent puppy and disguard it like it was garbage, which you know that that dog is going to die. Especially with the extreme temperatures," Gross told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

The puppy was taken to Selden Animal Emergency Hospital for observation and treatment.

"The witness fell in love with the pup and will most likely adopt it," Gross said.

There is now a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information can call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.  All calls will be kept confidential.
