Montclair Police: Man Selling iPad On Craigslist Stabbed During Exchange
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Detectives swarmed a quiet suburban neighborhood Sunday after police say a man's ad on Craigslist led to him getting stabbed.
As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, police in Montclair, New Jersey say what started out as an afternoon meeting in a TD Bank parking lot at 233 Bloomfield Ave. soon turned into a serious assault.
Police said the victim, who was trying to sell an iPad and camera through an ad on Craigslist, was stabbed twice by the prospective buyer.
The victim drove himself to a Denville hospital, where police were notified about the incident.
Montclair police believe the suspect was also injured during the assault and they followed drops of blood to a dumpster where they spent several hours searching for evidence, Castro reported.
Detectives actually climbed into two dumpsters behind an apartment building and looked for the weapon used in the attack, pulling everything out carefully and examining each item for clues.
It remains unclear if they found anything used in the crime.
Craigslist does list safety tips on its website for meeting people to exchange items.
The website suggests people meet in a public place, consider taking a friend, and to be careful if you're buying or selling high-value items.
Montclair police said they believe they know who the suspect is, but no arrests had been made by late Sunday night.
