Not A Typo: HS Girls Basketball Team From Queens Beats Opponent By 109 Points

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There are blowouts.

And then there are BLOWOUTS.

On Tuesday night, the Francis Lewis High School (Queens) girls basketball team defeated Brooklyn Collegiate, 117-8.

That's not a typo. The final score was 117-8.

According to Nick Forrester of the New York Daily News, Francis Lewis coach Stephen Tsai pulled most of his starters after the first quarter and called off his full-court press.

Francis Lewis led 35-4 after the first quarter. According to the newspaper, the substitutes of the winning squad didn't allow Brooklyn Collegiate to score a point in the second half.

"I always love it when the girls that don't get to play are out there, and the girls who do get to play are on the bench cheering for their teammates," Tsai told the New York Daily News. "But competitive-wise and game-wise, there wasn't as much strategy used tonight."

The newspaper reports that Brooklyn Collegiate head coach Rodney Johnson wasn't angry about the lopsided score.

"We're rebuilding for next year, and we plan on being on the other side of this soon," Johnson told the newspaper.
