BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – Emergency responders came to the aid of a man who fell out of his kayak on Barnegat Bay.
Bayville Fire Department officials tell the Asbury Park Press that the man was in the icy waters for at least 10 minutes before he was rescued. They say he was “cold and shaken up,” but declined medical attention at the scene.
Officials say another man who was boating with the victim couldn’t get close enough to rescue him, and a person who lives nearby called police to get help. The two men were about 500 yards offshore when the victim fell from his kayak late Friday night.
Three rescuers tied to the shore in ice suits were sent out onto the bay on foot to bring the boaters back to shore.
