More Snow On The Way As Tri-State Bids Farewell To February

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- After a frigid February, New York City is preparing to start March with a snowstorm.

Snow is expected to arrive in the Tri-State Area Sunday afternoon and change to a wintry mix overnight into Monday, causing concern for a messy morning commute.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory for Sunday and Monday morning rush hour commute.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for northeastern Connecticut.

Meanwhile, New York City's Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert for Sunday beginning at noon.

The department is now readying snow plows, salt spreaders and staff ahead of the storm.

New York City as well as points east and west are expected to see up to 3 inches of snow, with lesser amounts south where the changeover to rain occurs early, CBS2 Meteorologist Matt DeLucia reported.

The highest amounts of 3 to 6 inches will be to the north, where the storm remains mostly snow.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service said the average temperature for the city was about 24 in February -- 11 degrees below the average of 35 for the month.
