Police: Girl, 7, Missing From Bronx Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police late Monday were searching for a 7-year-old girl who vanished in the afternoon after apparently being unable to get into her apartment.

Jahnya Williams, who lives on East 223rd Street in the Edenwald section of the Bronx, was last seen around 2:45 p.m. leaving her home, police said.

Sources told CBS2 Jahnya entered her building, but could not get into her apartment. She later went back, but still could not get in, sources said.

She was last seen heading east on 223rd Street, sources said.

Jahnya is described as a black female about 5 feet tall and 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing an ankle-length black winter coat and a blue winter hat, and was carrying a black backpack with neon green accents, police said.

Police have released two photos of Jahnya. Sources said she is in good physical and mental health.
