NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- You know what would make this Tuesday a lot better? Free pancakes.

That's exactly what IHOP is offering customers for the 10th anniversary of National Pancake Day.

This year, the restaurant is celebrating a "Decade of Giving" and hopes to raise $3.5 million for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Customers are encouraged to make a voluntary donation to the cause in exchange for a free short stack of IHOP's buttermilk pancakes.

Three high school seniors planned to make several stops on an IHOP tour of northern New Jersey.

"There's apparently on Route 4 in Fort Lee and we're going to that one," one of the students told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

"I've got pancakes on the mind right now," another student said. "I am a little full but I still want more pancakes."

Last year, IHOP served 4.2 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day and customers donated nearly $3 million to children's charities.

Since 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $16 million with the initiative.
