Sanitation Department: Unkempt Sidewalks Worst In The Bronx

Bronx resident Victor Ortiz said abandoned and foreclosed properties don't have anyone tending to them.

Outside 896 E. 167th. St. in Longwood, there were more than a dozen Sanitation Department tickets on a chain-link fence Wednesday. Neighbors say the sidewalk has not been shoveled all winter.

"It's not just here, though," Ortiz said. "It's everywhere around the Bronx.

"It's just sad," he added. "There's elderly people here. There's children here. You've got to dodge, be careful, you fall."

Walter Lambert, 68, was waddling Wednesday while navigating the inch-thick ice on East 167th.

"It's dangerous," he said.
