Yankees Starter Chris Capuano Leaves Outing With Strained Right Quadriceps
TAMPA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Chris Capuano, the top candidate to be the New York Yankees' fifth starter, left his outing against Boston due to a strained right quadriceps.
Capuano, 36, was hurt in the first inning Wednesday while covering first base on Brock Holt's one-out grounder to first baseman Garrett Jones. The left-hander was scheduled for an MRI.
The veteran left-hander was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain, and though no timetable for his return was released, WFAN's Sweeny Murti reported Capuano likely would miss opening day.
Adam Warren is among the pitchers who could replace Capuano if he's not ready for the April 6 opener against Toronto.
