Plea Deal For Man In Camden Yards Assault On Yankees Fan

BALTIMORE (CBSNewYork/AP) — A man accused of attacking a Yankee fan at Camden Yards has accepted a plea deal.

Gregory Fleischman's trial was slated to begin Monday, but his attorney says Fleischman entered an Alford plea Friday and was sentenced to 10 years in jail, with all but 10 days suspended. The plea, which was first reported by WBFF-TV, is not an admission of guilt, but an acknowledgment that the state has enough evidence to convict.

Prosecutors say Fleischman and Michael Bell taunted Matthew Fortese, who was wearing a Yankee cap during an Orioles game in May 2013. Prosecutors say Fleischman punched Fortese, causing him to fall and hit his head. Fortese suffered a critical head injury.

Bell pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and received a five-year suspended sentence.

"The State recommended 15 years, all but five years suspended with five years probation and restitution," Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said, according to CBS Baltimore. "It is within the court's discretion to sentence the defendant and in this case the court sentenced the defendant to 10 years, all but 10 days suspended with five years probation and required him to pay $250 a month for five years totaling $15,000."
