Deron Williams: Kentucky Making NBA Playoffs? That's 'Ridiculous' And 'Crazy'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Wednesday, basketball Hall of Famer Larry Brown turned some heads when he said that Kentucky would make the playoffs in the NBA's Eastern Conference.

"I don't want to put pressure on John," SMU's head coach said at a press conference. "I feel real close to him. I'm so proud of what he's done. I think they'd honestly make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference if they were in the NBA."

The Nets (27-39) are currently on the outside looking in in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, and point guard Deron Williams dismissed Brown's comment as "crazy" and "ridiculous."

"That's very ridiculous," the three-time NBA All-Star told reporters. "...It sounds good. Could they win a game at some point in the season? Yeah. I'm saying they could probably win a game. Maybe. Once, twice."

Kentucky is the favorite to win the NCAA Tournament. Coach John Calipari's squad, ranked No. 1 in the nation, crushed Hampton in the round of 64 on Thursday night.

"There's no way," Williams said. "I wish they would come in here. They're really good. They are really good. Don't let me take anything away from them. But that's just crazy. When you have a team full of 18-, 19-year-olds it's just completely different.

"You're going to catch a team tired one night; on a back-to-back, four games in five nights. Then they could give them a run. But making the East? Making the playoffs? Playoffs!?"

Kentucky will take on No. 8 Cincinnati on Saturday in the round of 32.
