NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Hey commuters, check your tickets!

The $58 million jackpot-winning ticket in Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing was purchased at Carlton Cards near the Long Island Rail Road tracks in Penn Station.

There was excitement and disappointment as the news spread through the transportation hub Thursday.

As TV 10/55's Ilana Gold reported, hundreds were checking their tickets, knowing they had a chance to strike it rich.

"I wish it was me," one man told 1010 WINS' John Montone. "I'd be somewhere nice and warm right now."

"I checked it four times, I gave it to a friend to check three more times, I wasn't the winner," said a man who stopped at Carlton Cards to scan his ticket.

"I kept being excited thinking it might be me but it wasn't," said lotto player Al Arva, who didn't walk away completely empty-handed. "One dollar, can't retire today."

The store will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

"It's really exciting," manager Vijay Sampat said. "We just hope it's one of our regular customers."

Many customers consider the store to be a lucky one because it sold a winning $1 million Powerball ticket in 2010.

"That's why I'm here, I'm coming all the way from Far Rockaway to come here," one customer said.

A Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million was also sold in Kings Park at Kings Park Stationers at 56 Indian Head Road.

This is the fourth nationwide-multimillion jackpot won in New York in recent months, said Gardner Gurney, Acting Director, Division of the Lottery.

"New York is proving itself to be the luckiest place to play the Lottery," Gurney said.

Harold Diamond of Wurtsboro won the $326 million prize in the Nov. 4 Mega Millions drawing; Tammy Pratt of South Fallsburg picked up the $126 million jackpot in the Feb. 27 Mega Millions drawing and a the winning $136 million ticket in the March 14 Powerball drawing was sold at a 7-Eleven on Staten Island. That prize has not been claimed.
