Boil Water Advisory Issued After Water Main Break In Millburn, N.J.

MILLBURN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – A boil advisory was in effect for several New Jersey towns Saturday morning, following a water main break in Millburn.

The water main break on Glen Avenue forced some families to flee their homes Friday night, CBS2 reported. The view from Chopper2 showed water pouring through neighborhoods.

The break caused multiple street closures, and power outages were also reported.

On Saturday morning, a boil water advisory was in effect for Irvington, Maplewood, and Millburn residents, according to Richard Barnes, internal affairs manager for New Jersey American Water.

Barnes told 1010 WINS the boil advisory is precautionary, and water quality will be tested in the three towns over the next 24 hours.

The advisory will be lifted once state and federal quality standards are ensured, Barnes said.

The water main had been shut off by Saturday morning and was under repair, Barnes said. Repairs were expected to be completed by the afternoon.

A total of 35 homes in Millburn were still without water Saturday morning.

The Millburn Fire Department told 1010 WINS that only one residence was evacuated, and no structures were in dangerous of collapsing. The utilities in the evacuated building were still turned off Saturday afternoon and it remained off limits, the fire department said.
