Newtown Gun Control Advocates' Annual Ride Makes Pit Stop In New Jersey

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Gun control advocates en route to the nation's capital took a slight detour in northern New Jersey during their third annual bike ride from Newtown, Connecticut.

The riders rolled into Morristown on Sunday and took part in a rally with community members.

Among the speakers was Maura Sherlach Schwartz, whose mother was one of the 26 people killed in the December 2012 shooting at Newtown's Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The group, Team 26, set out Saturday morning on the 400-mile ride that is expected to take them four days.

The 26 cyclists are drawing attention to their campaign for measures including requiring all gun sales to be subject to a background check and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

The ride will end at the steps of the Capitol in Washington.
