Brooklyn Woman Delivers Baby In Back Of Uber Car

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A pregnant Brooklyn woman thought she had plenty of time to get to the hospital, but her baby had other plans.

David Horvitz got an Uber car after his wife, Zanna Gilbert, woke up with contractions Monday morning.

Horvitz said his wife did not realize she was in labor until they were close to the hospital.

"At first it was just like, 'Get to the hospital, it's not an emergency, we'll just drive there,' and then by like Midtown, Zanna started making more noises and then she was like, 'Oh no, it's coming out now,'" he told 1010 WINS.

Their daughter was born in the back of the Uber car at 57th Street and Park Avenue, just a few blocks from Mount Sinai Hospital.

"I kind of just reached over and the baby just came out into my hands," Horvitz said.

He told the New York Post that he kept apologizing to the driver, Germaine Allen, who is expecting his own baby in a couple of months.

"I just kept telling the driver I was sorry," Horvitz told the Post. "But he said, 'Don't worry, that was amazing!'"

Uber paid for the cleanup and gave Allen a couple of Knicks tickets to say thank you, the Post reported.
