Lane Bryant Ad Campaign Takes Aim At Victoria's Secret Angels

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Plus-size clothing chain Lane Bryant is taking on Victoria's Secret in a new ad campaign.

The ads for Lane Bryant's Cacique Intimate collection feature ladies in lingerie proudly proclaiming "I'm no angel," CBS2's Jill Nicolini reported.

The campaign aims to prove that all women are sexy regardless of society's traditional or stereotypical views on beauty.

"I think that there should be more representation of body types in media because young women only see skinny people in the media, and it gives a false idea of what beauty is and what beauty standards should be," said Michelle Sutskever, of Staten Island.

Some believe the plus-size retailer is taking aim at the much thinner Victoria's Secret Angels.

"Lane Bryant is pretty obviously poking fun at the Victoria's Secret Angels, which is their group of really slim, beautiful models, and they're kind of trying to say, 'Hey, you don't have to be a Victoria's Secret Angel to be beautiful,'" said Emma Bazilian, senior editor at Adweek.

"It's very refreshing for everyone to be just comfortable," Sonia Bitton said after seeing the ad.

"It's good to see women being comfortable with themselves ... ," added Greg Doyle. "I do like the Victoria's Secret models, but you do have that range of different types of body types, so I think it's good."

Through social media and using the hashtag "#ImNoAngel," people can finally share their opinions about self image.

"There are lots of other types of women in the world, and social media gives them a platform to really spread that message and share pictures of themselves," Bazilian said.

Victoria's Secret has not said what it thinks of the campaign.
