NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A driver is facing drug trafficking charges after he was stopped just outside the Holland Tunnel with $1.6 million worth of crystal meth stashed in the trunk of the car.

The driver, 33-year-old Mario Hernandez was held on half a million dollars bond at arraignment, WCBS 880’s Irene Cornell reported. His lawyer insisted it was a rental car and that his client was unaware of the contents of the trunk.

It was a huge seizure in which detectives had to use a furniture moving dolly to haul the 25 kilos of crystal meth out of the trunk, Cornell reported.

The light blue crystals were stowed in boxes used to transport stone tiles.
