In honor of their first-round playoff series with Washington, here are the previous six Islanders-Capitals series:
1. 1983 Patrick Division Semifinals
En route to their fourth straight Stanley Cup, the Islanders easily threw the Capitals aside with a 3-1 series win.
2. 1984 Patrick Division Finals
In their "Drive for Five," another easy series win for the Isles. This time, four games to one.
3. 1985 Patrick Division Semifinals
No NHL team had ever come back from down 2-0 in a best-of-five series, until the Isles did it in 1985. They won the series, 3-2.
4. 1986 Patrick Division Semifinals
For the first time in franchise history, the Islanders lost to the Caps in a playoff series. They ended up getting swept, 3-0, too.
5. 1987 Patrick Division Semifinals
Culminating with the famous "Easter Epic," which ended in the fourth overtime on Pat LaFontaine's turnaround shot, the Isles made up for their poor showing the prior year. They took the series, 4-3.
6. 1993 Patrick Division Semifinals
The only thing the Islanders lost in this series was Pierre Turgeon, as they kickstarted their magical run in '93 with a 4-2 series victory.
