NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Reuniting returning military veterans with their best friends, is the never-ending goal of one organization.

As WCBS 880’s Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, returning military veterans are often forced to leave their dogs behind as they head to war-torn areas.

That’s where Guardians of Rescue comes in. The organization locates and reunited furry friends with their service members at home.

“They give them a sense of security, they give them a friendship, especially when you’re across the world in a war torn area,” founder Robert Misseri said.
