Gov. Malloy Lauds Job Creation Numbers In Recent Report

HARTFORD, CONN. (CBSNewYork) -- The most recent jobs report out of Connecticut boasted mainly good news for the state.

As WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported, over the last 12 months Connecticut has created nearly 27,000 new jobs.

Gov. Dannel Malloy believes the state is now well poised to recover some of the growth lost in the so-called "Great Recession."

"The downturn in the economy began basically in 2008," Malloy told Schneidau. "We've had our best employment year-to-year numbers since 1998."

The governor said some of the upturn is due to changes made, including the state Labor Department working directly with human resources departments in Connecticut.

In all, Malloy said there's a lot of good job numbers in the latest report, including the creation of 4,000 new jobs just last month alone.
