Vacationing Swedish Police Officers Break Up Fight On NYC Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - So much for going on vacation.

Four vacationing police officers from Sweden broke up an out-of-control fight between two men aboard a 6 train Wednesday, 1010 WINS reported.

The officers were on their way to see "Les Miserables" on Broadway when they heard the train operator yelling over the intercom if there were any police officers on the train, 1010 WINS reported.

The conductor didn't specify "New York City Police," so the Swedish officers answered the call and broke up the fight.

Video of the incident, which you can see above, shows the Swedish officers repeatedly urging one of the men involved in the fight to calm down.

"Everybody wait for the police, OK?" says one of the officers. "Take it easy... but we have to police, sir."

"I can't breathe! I can't breathe," cries one of the men involved in the fight after being restrained. It's the same phrase used by Eric Garner while being arrested on Staten Island. Garner died in police custody.

"Sir, calm down, OK? Everything's going to be OK," says one of the officers. "Are you injured?"

The restrained man said "No."

They held the men involved in the incident until their New York counterparts showed up.

When they were congratulated for their bravery, the visiting officers said they're no heroes, just tourists, 1010 WINS reported.
