Mets, Yankees Fans Are Looking For Bragging Rights As Subway Series Gets Underway

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- It certainly was cold for fans watching the showdown at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, the Mets and Yankees were set to square off in the first game of the Subway Series.

Tensions between fans of the two teams were even higher as the Mets were fighting for their 12th win in a row.

It's a night where marriages and friendships are put to the test.

"Oh he's still gonna be my buddy, but even though he's a Mets fan we just go like this and cover it up," Yankee fan Larry Dercole said about a friend.

There was a little bit more than just bragging rights on the line as the Mets went in search of their 13th consecutive win. Something they have never done.

Many Mets fans felt something they haven't felt in years, hopeful.

"Off to a great start, trying to make it a great season. The last time they won the World Series in 1986, and I think this is the year," Jonathan Goldberg said.

"The Mets were so bad the last few years I didn't even have a jersey," Jonathan Lombardi said.

"We're going to have a Mets record 12 in a row and it's going to happen in the Yankees house," Clark Poccia said.

Yankees fans said no way. They're ready and eager to put an end to the Mets winning streak. The Bombers are fresh off of a 3 game winning streak of their own.
