Study Gives 6 Connecticut Counties Failing Grades When It Comes To Air Quality

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) – Breathing easy isn't actually all that easy in Connecticut, one study says.

According to the "State of the Air" report from the American Lung Association, residents in almost every county in Connecticut live in an area where the air quality is unacceptable

The association gives six of the state's eight counties, including Fairfield, a failing grade, WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.

Dr. Philip Greenspan, a pulmonary disease specialist with Bridgeport Hospital, doesn't need the report to tell him the air quality is worsening.

"We've been seeing more and more patients with lung diseases like asthma coming in, and certainly I think there is a correlate with increased air pollution," he said.

While much needs to be done on a national level to cap emissions, Greenspan advises it's best to avoid exertion on the many bad air days that lie ahead this summer.
