Animal Care & Control of NYC Holds 'Be A Hero To A Homeless Animal' Adoption Event.

New York (CBSNewYork) When you adopt a pet, you're a hero to a homeless animal, but often adopters say they're the ones who were rescued.

As "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens at movie theaters this weekend, Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) is inviting you to come check out the four-legged Super Pets in the city shelters!

Starting Friday, May 1, and running through May 10, AC&C is holding a superhero adoption promotion, featuring a $20 adoption fee for "marvelous" cats and dogs seven months and older, and rabbits of any age.

"Whether you're looking for a caped crusader, a super sleuth, or a companion to ward off the doldrums, AC&C has an amazing superhero just waiting to rescue you!" said AC&C Adoption Manager Jessica Vaccaro.

CBSNewYork and 1010 WINS team up with AC&C weekly to feature adoptable animals at the city shelters. This week, we're showcasing Cheeta, Robin and Jacqueline.

Cheeta (A1033715 - photo above) Cheeta, an AC&C volunteer notes, is "gorgeous, friendly, affectionate and everything she should be." She's a playful pup who does well with other dogs. Meet this approximately two-year-old sweetie at AC&C's Manhattan Care Center, 326 E. 110th Street.

Robin (A0843742)  An AC&C volunteer describes Robin as "a big, lovable tabby cat who cannot get enough affection, no matter how long you linger at his kennel. He will stand upright to be petted, then lie down and stick out his chin for some caresses, and then roll over on his back, and then up again." Meet this adorable, approximately five-year-old cutie at AC&C's Brooklyn Care Center, 2336 Linden Boulevard.

Jacqueline (A1033751) "This girl is a total love!" an AC&C volunteer notes. "She's very easygoing and friendly, and you can feel her soaking it all up as you pet her incredibly soft coat…. Jacqueline has a cute way of cocking her ears in different directions to monitor what's going on in different parts of the room." Meet this beautiful bunny, approximately one year old, at AC&C's Manhattan Care Center, 326 E. 110th Street.

Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the only open-admissions animal shelter in New York City and takes in approximately 30,000 animals every year. AC&C's  three Care Centers in Manhattan (326 East 110th Street), Brooklyn (2336 Linden Boulevard), and Staten Island (3139 Veterans Road West) are open for adoptions 12pm-8pm Monday thru Friday, and 10am-6pm Saturdays and Sundays.

If you're interested in one of the animals featured here, email AC&C's Adoption team at adoption@nycacc.org with the animal's name and "A#", or head directly to the Care Center where the animal is located. Please note, animals featured here may already be placed by the time you arrive, but there are hundreds of great cats, dogs, and rabbits looking for loving homes every day!
