Top Choirs Set To Perform At McDonald's Gospelfest In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- If you're still looking for plans for Mother's Day weekend, a star-studded event at Newark's Prudential Center on Saturday can help you entertain mom and contribute to a great cause.

The 32nd annual McDonald's Gospelfest will feature performances by Cissy Houston, The Clark Sisters, the Greater Allen AME Cathedral Mass Choir and Faith Evans, just to name a few.

"We're so excited because this year, we decided to go back to the basics of what gospel music is all about and celebrate choirs," A. Curtis Farrow, Emmy-award winning executive producer and director for the festival, told CBS2's Andrea Grymes and Diane Macedo.

"You know, I tell people all the time, when you go to a black church, you expect to hear a good choir. So I tell everybody, if you want to have a good time that's full of energy and excitement, you want to be there Saturday, May 9th because it's going to be when the choirs meet the quartets. And we have the best gosepl choirs in the country coming to Newark, New Jersey, to celebrate with us, and the best quartets."

Money raised by the event goes toward scholarships.
