Long Island AARP Members Head To Albany To Push For Care Act

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A busload of Long Island retirees are traveling to Albany on Tuesday to fight for the Care Act.

As WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported, the Care Act would ensure that families receive instructions from hospital staff on how to properly care for loved ones discharged to home.

Joan McCarty is leading the group of AARP members to Albany.

"Should it be how to change the bandage on the wound, how to get them to stand up or sit down properly, when to take their medication," she said.

The legislation has already won Senate approval. It now awaits action in the Assembly.
