Stamford Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Woman In Elevator

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A Stamford man has been charged with sexual assault after allegedly attacking a woman in an apartment elevator.

Tyub Mohammed, 21, waited in a West Side parking garage, saw the woman park her car and then followed her into the elevator just after midnight on April 24, police told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

"And as soon as she turned around, he pretty much pounced on her and groped her, pushed her up against the wall and attempted to kiss her," police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said. "And actually, as he was trying to kiss her, he bit her lip and caused a significant injury to her lip."

Physically bruised and bleeding, the woman was able to escape and call police.

"Luckily for her, the elevator door opened, and she was able to push him out the door," Hohn said.

Hohn said surveillance video helped lead police to Mohammed.

He is being held on $250,000 bond after being charged with third-degree sexual assault and third-degree assault.
